Canadiens vs. Coyotes third period thread

The Habs started the second period with a powerplay, but couldn't convert. They were looking to build a solid attempt at tying the game, but at the eight-minute mark of the second period Brad Richardson gave the Coyotes a two-goal lead.

The goal came during an extended four-on-four caused by an altercation involving Max Domi and Greg Pateryn. Pateryn came to the defense of Jacob de la Rose, who had been roughly checked by Domi. Pateryn was assessed a five-minute major penalty and game misconduct for cross-checking Domi in the face, and Domi earned two minor roughing penalties on the play.

The Habs drew to within one goal, with Brendan Gallagher putting  soft one through Louis Domingue to give his team some hope.

Less than two minutes later, the Coyotes restored their two-goal lead on the powerplay that resulted once Domi had served his two minors. Oliver Ekman Larsson recorded his third point of the night, and put his team up 4-2. The Coyotes extended their lead to three with just over four minutes left in the second period. Both the fourth and fifth goals were probably goals you'd love for your goalie to stop at this point in the season.

Moments later, the Coyotes cemented their lead, with Kevin Connauton getting his second goal of the year to put the Habs down 5-2. That's a huge mountain to climb with just twenty minutes to go.
