The Canadiens announced that defenceman Zach Redmond broke his foot during practice, and will require six weeks to recover.

Redmond, 28, was signed as a free agent by the Canadiens this summer, and has yet to play a regular season game for the team.
The Traverse City native impressed during training camp, and earned a spot on the Canadiens by outplaying fellow blueliner Mark Barberio.
Barberio, who was the last cut on defence, is the obvious choice to receive a call up in light of Redmond’s injury. This also bodes well for rookie defenceman Mikhail Sergachev, who may see his audition extended beyond nine games. As it stands, even without Redmond, the Canadiens have seven defencemen on the roster, which means they’re in no rush to make a decision.
