World Hockey Championship schedule: May 16

With just a two days remaining in the group stage of the World Championship, several teams will hope to improve their standing to make the playoff round.

Group A Preliminary Games

9:15 AM ET: Russia vs Norway

The host nation can use the Czech Republic’s surprising shootout loss to Denmark and still has a chance to win the Group. With the reinforcements adding to their already strong team, Russia can pull even with a regulation win on Monday. Norway is eliminated from the medal round, but not completely safe from relegation although any point will keep them safe. The game will be shown on TSN2 in Canada.

1:15 PM ET: Kazakhstan vs Denmark

Denmark is coming off of a huge win against the Group-leading Czech Republic and are now tied with Switzerland for the last medal round spot in Group A, however Switzerland has the tie-breaker. The Swiss end the medal round vs the Czech Republic while Denmark has Kazakhstan who have struggled after a shootout win against the Swiss to open their tournament. Denmark needs at least a point to have a chance to move on. Kazakhstan needs a regulation win to avoid relegation. The game will be shown on TSN1/3 in Canada.

Group B Preliminary Games

9:15 AM ET: France vs Canada

Canada needs a win to keep pace with Finland heading into their final day showdown tomorrow. They have only allowed four goals in their five games to date. France has an outside shot at the medal round but would need to get something from this game, and I don’t think that’s something that they can do. They are safe from relegation no matter what happens because they are co-hosting next year’s event. The game will be shown on TSN1/3/4/5 in Canada.

1:15 PM ET: Germany vs Hungary

Germany is leading a very surprising run at these Worlds. After giving Canada a scare, they have wins over Slovakia, Belarus and the United States and are all-but-guaranteed a medal round berth. With any points against Hungary, which is to be expected. Hungary is, simply fighting for their lives in the tournament. A huge win against Belarus on Saturday gives them the edge, but they have to make sure that they at least match whatever Belarus does in their final game tomorrow in this one. Belarus has France, which means them getting points is not out of the question. Either way, this has been a tournament to remember for the Hungarian team. The game will be shown on TSN4/5 in Canada.

All games will be streamed here (subject to geo-blocking). TSN Go will be streaming all of the games as well in Canada.
