2016 World Cup: Finland vs Sweden game thread, schedule, lines, and how to watch
A storied rivalry is renewed in a matinée affair.
Sweden survived a late comeback attempt by the Russians in their first game of the World Cup of Hockey tournament, and can put themselves into the semi-finals with a victory over their geographical neighbours.
The Swedes got the full benefit of their mobile defence in their 2-1 win on Sunday, as they were able to keep the pucking moving toward the attacking zone, and snuff out the individual rushes the Russian forwards mustered.
Finland will try a different approach, working as a unit to get the puck into Sweden’s end. It will be difficult for the team, which is lacking in star power, to break down the stellar Swedish defence, but a constant pressure may work better than the solo thrusts the Russians failed with.
The game is a matter of pride for both teams, but Finland is in greater need of the victory. As the only team in Group B without one, they need to put a win on the board to stay in contention.
Puck drop is at 3:00 PM EDT at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario
