Canadiens vs. Capitals: Preseason — Thread, roster & lines

Tonight's game features some heavy duty firepower from both teams.

David Banks-USA TODAY Sports

Tuesday's preseason opener against the Leafs was not exactly a night to remember as fans, but it seems to have been an important stepping stone for Michael McCarron as far as his chances of making the team go. The only Hab able to find the mesh in the often disjointed opening game, McCarron is one of a few young Habs who will return to the lineup tonight to make a further impression on the coaching staff and Habs' management. Also returning to the lineup tonight are Sven Andrighetto, Christian Thomas, and Jarred Tinordi who didn't exacty play his best game with a -12 CF performance having a fairly equal deployment in terms of O-Zone vs. D-Zone starts (53%).

A number of Canadiens' veterans will get their first taste of pre-season ice tonight, as P.K. Subban, Andrei Markov, as well as former Washington Capitals Alexander Semi and Tomas Fleischman will get a chance to work on their games against their former team. The Canadiens' lineup will feature a top line of Alex Galchenyuk centering Lars Eller and Alexander Semin, giving that line the opportunity to develop some chemistry in what can hopefully become a potent offensive option for Michel Therrien.

On the Capitals' side, the Caps will not be without offensive talent of their own as Alex Ovechkin and T.J. Oshie will both dress for tonight's game. The Caps will also be starting Braden Holtby, which will give the Canadiens' shooters a good challenge, as Holtby was a top goalie last year, 3 wins shy of Carey Price's number with 41 wins last season (good for 2nd in the league along with Nashville's Pekka Rinne). To note as well, is the return of defensive prospect Dmitry Orlov, who returns to the ice after missing the entire 2014-15 season due to a wrist injury.

The puck drops at 7:30 PM EST. Lineups will be updated closer to game-time. This should be a good game given the quality of players featured in both lineups.
