The Canadiens got an early 4 on 3 powerplay to start the 2nd period and set up P.K. Subban for the point shot. He took his time, and fired a half-cocked shot off the post. Moments later, after the powerplay had transitioned into a 5 on 4 advantage, P.A. Parenteau would ring would off the iron. Until the 8 minute-mark of the 2nd period, the Habs had the advantage in play, but being up by 1 goal had the Lightning one chance away from drawing even. By the 10 minute mark of the 2nd period, the Habs had leapt ahead in the realm of possession, with a 27-23 shot-attempt lead in the game, and ahead 14-10 in shots on net.
As the 2nd period progressed, there was a sense of urgency from the Lightning's side, factoring in Carey Price who had been waiting all night to be called upon. His best save of this sequence between the 10 and 15 minute mark of the 2nd period was a no-look positional pad save on Brenden Morrow. The Habs drew a penalty with under 4 minutes left in the period with Brendan Gallagher taking a punch in the face from Andrej Sustr after a whistle. The Habs did not convert, putting their best chance off the post.
With 20 minutes left, the Habs will lay it all on the line to extend this series.
