Since pretty much the moment the Detroit Red Wings scored the opening goal, the Habs have been climbing on top of them in terms of possession, shots on goal and scored early in the second to take the lead. At the time of Jeff Petry's 7th of the year, and 3rd in the last 5 games, the Habs were out-possessing the Wings 26-21 CF. The Wings would respond less than 2 minutes later, making Alexei Emelin look bad in the process.
The back and forth battle for momentum has been play-off like. The Habs got into some penalty trouble, but were able to keep Detroit from getting any opportunities, which is quite the accomplishment for this 10th place penalty-kill ranked team to defend so well against the NHL's 2nd best powerplay team (right behind Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals).
The Wings need 1 point to secure their position in the playoff picture. That 1 point will be battled for with all the intensity any Mike Babcock coached team can muster, which is a lot. The Habs will be in tough and will need all of their concentration to group together to get Carey Price his 43rd win of the season, something no other Hab goalie has ever done.
