Canadiens vs Red Wings: Game Thread, Lines, & TV Schedule

Carey Price goes for win 43.

Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

With Max Pacioretty out for the last two remaining games of the regular season, the Montreal Canadiens will be biding their time while their star scorer mends his injuries. The lineup that will be on the ice tonight seems a little hollow without his presence. Although the Habs are secure in their making the playoffs, the 4 remaining points up for grabs are important in terms of playoff positioning and extended home-ice advantage, with the Habs up 2 points on the Tampa Bay Lightning with as many games played.

The Detroit Red Wings are hanging on to their playoff spot, just ahead of the Pittsburgh Penguins (+1 point), Boston Bruins and Ottawa Senators (+2 points) for 6th in the Eastern Conference. The Wings have two games left including tonight and finish off their season in Carolina on Saturday, and can finish as high as 5th in the Conference or as low as 9th. One permutation of the remaining three days of hockey has the Habs and Wings meeting in the first round of the playoffs. The Red Wings have not been playing great since the trade deadline, only winning 7 out of 19 games.

Carey Price will go for win 43 of the season tonight. Carey has won both starts this year against the Wings, only allowing one goal, and posting a .981 sv % and one shutout. Should Carey Price get the win tonight, a franchise record that was set 59 years ago and only ever repeated twice before this year will be broken. The sacredness of the teams to which these records are associated may conjure up some of the ghosts of old, just in time for spring, when they used to appear annually and stay until almost summertime.

The puck drops at 7:30PM EST.
