Canadiens vs Devils second period thread

The Habs lead 2-1.

The Habs looked fatigued to start the game, giving up 7 shot attempts and 3 shots on net within the first 5 minutes. Farmingville, New York native Keith Kinkaid did not factor into the game until the 6:30 mark when Dale Weise finally got the Habs on the shot clock. By the 10 minute mark, the Habs had yet to register a bonafide scoring chance.

Coasting for half the period, the Habs paid the price, giving up the first goal of the game after Dustin Tokarski failed to control a rebound, allowing New Jersey's Stefan Matteau to tapped it in. A status report  for when the goal was scored had the Devils holding 84.61 CF% (11-2 CF).

But you only need one good shot to get the goal. A powerplay drawn by lineup addition Manny Malholtra provided the setting for the Habs to wake up and get on the board when Tomas Plekanec hammered a one-timer off a pass from Sergei Gonchar on the powerplay, which has been an effective 5 for 12 (41.6%) over the last 3 games. 2:03 later, Jeff Petry scored his 3rd goal in the last 3 games on an accurate wrist shot from the point to put the Habs up 2-1.

The Habs turned the tide of the game after a geriatric start to the period. War-On-Ice had the scoring chances 7-4 Devils to end the period. Possession drew near even with the Habs holding the lower end at 47.06% 5 v 5 Score-Adjusted Corsi.
