The Habs got off to a good start with 2 shot attempts in on Craig Anderson before the Senators showed a little nerves, taking a Too Many Men penalty. The subsequent powerplay yielded a miss on the backdoor pass by Andrei Markov and some offensive zone time, but produced nothing on the scoreboard. By the 5 minute mark of the first period the Habs were upping the tempo with 10 shot attempts against the Senators' 2, leading in shots 4-0.

The Senators got their first shot on goal at the 8:42 mark. All the effort built up the Habs beforehand was eclipsed by a Bobby Ryan goal 47 seconds later. The Habs looked very uncomfortable after giving up the first goal for the 5th time in the series, allowing 10 shot attempts over the next 5 minutes. With the Canadiens on their heels, the Senators were crowding Carey Price and making it impossible to see pucks. Patrick Wiercioch took a wrist a beat a screened Carey Price to give the Senators a 2 goal lead.

The Habs were stunned to leave the first period down 2-0. With all the shot attempts taken, the Canadiens have not made a dent in Craig Anderson since Dale Weise's OT goal on Sunday night.
