Montreal Canadiens vs San Jose Sharks game thread

The Habs start their west coast road trip tonight with a visit to the Shark Tank.

The Habs come into San Jose tonight, a band of brothers left intact and bolstered by some depth additions with three new players acquired today by Marc Bergevin. If you're just brushing up on the news, the Habs added defensman Jeff Petry, and forwards Brian Flynn and Torrey Mitchell. P.A. Parenteau will be penciled back in the lineup for his first game since January 15, as Michael Bournival was sent back to the Hamilton Bulldogs.

San Jose is playing for their playoff lives, 2 points behind the Calgary Flames with 1 more game played. The Sharks still have a chance to make the playoffs, and have been tanking it for the last two weeks with a record of 2-7-1, reducing their playoff chances by a whopping 27% over that period from 40% to 13%. The competition for the last spot in the Western Conference playoffs is being hotly competed for between three teams, the Flames, Kings and Sharks, and with the Kings on the rise after a dismal first half to their season, the Sharks are looking to devour every point they can snag between their jaws.

The Habs are rolling, on a 4 game winning streak and having won 7 of their last 10 games. They have 100% probability of making the playoffs, with 87 points in the bank and are 2 points back of 1st place in the NHL, putting them in the race for their first President's Trophy since 1977-78 when they finished the season with 129 points (59-10-11).

The puck drops at 10:00PM EST.
