Pavel Datsyuk drew a hooking penalty on Andrei Markov 38 seconds into the second period to give the Red Wings another chance on the powerplay. The Habs were able to defend it again, and kept themselves from getting down early to start the period.
As the period progressed, the Habs and Red Wings traded shots and a few chances, running up the shots to 15-11 in favour of Detroit midway through the period (as well as 8 shots blocked by the Habs at that point in the game).
At eight minutes to go in the second period, we got to see Christian Thomas play a stint on the first line in place of Dale Weise.
Price kept the Habs in it during a four on four stint where he made an acrobatic stick check, followed up with a couple solid saves. Play left the danger zone as if nothing had happened, which is exactly what Carey Price brings to this team.
More four on four action after Andrei Markov and Gustav Nyquist get tangled up. Riley Sheahan took penalty to give the Habs a powerplay, but Detroit's penalty kill, 10th best in the league, held strong, and even generated the best chance on the powerplay after Subban fell down on the blue-line.
The first goal is still up for grabs headed into the third period. One goal may be all it will take to win this one.
