Canadiens vs Red Wings second period thread

New, comments

The Habs and Red Wings are playing it tight.

Jean-Yves Ahern-USA TODAY Sports

Alexei Emelin took an early cross-checking penalty on Tomas Tatar to give the best powerplay in the league a chance to get on the board. The Habs held the Red Wings to 1 shot on the powerplay, thus erasing the consequences of an ill-advised penalty from Emelin.

Tomas Tatar was the target of more rough stuff later on, when Dale Weise paid him a visit with a huge hit on the Detroit blue-line.

Midway through the first period shots are only 2-2. Montreal's third shot, a blast from P.K. Subban, was their best chance thirteen minutes into the game, but Jimmy Howard shrugged the shot off and the Red Wings took the puck the other way.

Carey Price robbed Darren Helm after he was sent to the races on a pinpoint pass by Gustav Nyquist.

There is not a lot of space out there heading into the second period.
