Canadiens vs Coyotes game thread

The Arizona Coyotes are out of the desert and into the frigid Montreal cold this afternoon to take on the Habs.

Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

The Montreal Canadiens will look to match their season-high six game winning streak today with a win against the Arizona Coyotes. The likelihood of this happening, even after just a quick look at the standings, seems high. Vegas did not spend as much time putting out a line on this game as they did for the Seahawks vs. Patriots game there's just so much that separates these two teams.

Life in the desert has not been easy again this year for the Coyotes, who sit in 2nd-last in the Western Conference only ahead of the Edmonton Oilers. They have a -55 goal differential and have only scored only 113 times this season. Ironically, the Habs have scored only 15 more goals, but have allowed the least goals in the league at 108. Of course, most of that success can be attributed to Carey Price, who gets the day off today, though this will be a good opportunity for the Canadiens to gain some confidence on the defensive side of the puck and practice their possession game against one of the less threatening teams in the league.

Today will be an opportunity for Habs fans to watch Antoine Vermette, who is rumoured to be in Marc Bergevin's crosshairs for the March 2 trade deadline, and daydream about where he would fit in the Habs lineup, and who would be going the other way to Arizona. Rumours, daydreams, and Sunday afternoon hockey - sounds like a great way to spend the day.

The teams hit the ice at 1:00 PM EST.
