In yesterday's game between Frölunda and Skellefteå — one and two in the SHL standings, respectively — Artturi Lehkonen's strong play was on offer once again.
He got going with a good hit in on the forecheck, and finished with a total of four hits in the game. He then showed his defensive awareness and maturity on the penalty kill when he broke up a cross-ice pass to the point, reading the play very well, and giving his linemates a chance for a change.
All this before he made a play to get a cross-ice pass over to the defender, taking up position in front of the net, and receiving a great feed from Robin Figren, to score his ninth goal of the season.
Lehkonen has 18 points (nine goals, nine assists) in 24 games, with an average time on ice of 15:35.
In the interview during the second intermission Figren laughed about the play, saying "I was going to shoot but I saw that little Finn in the corner of my eye and sent a pass instead," clearly joking and showing how much chemistry there is between himself and Artturi.
In the game between Djurgården and Brynäs, Lukas Vejdemo had two assists, setting up both the 1-0 and 2-0 goals for Djurgården. He has really taken huge steps during the season, and presents a strong case to be included in the Swedish WJC camp squad that is being announced on Monday. It will be a tough squad to crack, but Vejdemo's ability to play both centre and wing will be to his benefit.
