The Canadiens killed off the Lightning's second-period opening powerplay, but the Lightning would end up tying it on another powerplay five minutes into the period on lucky play by Nikita Kucherov, who threw it in front of the net to have it bounce of Mike Condon's stick and into the net.
The Habs regained the lead with Alex Galchenyuk unloading a one-timer set up by Jeff Petry and and Andrei Markov. Alex Galchenyuk continues to be one of the most effective Canadiens' forwards this season. Galchenyuk leads all active Canadiens forwards in points per sixty minutes with 2.64 P/60 before the start of tonight's game. Right behind him with 2.50 P/60 is Daniel Carr, who forced free and recovered the puck on the play that led to Galchenyuk's goal.
Mike Condon made a number of incredible saves in the second period, including this one on Vladislav Namestnikov. Perhaps the arrival of Ben Scrivens can explain Condon's great game tonight, however, it's a good coincidence for Condon to be playing with the same form he had to start the season.
The Canadiens have the lead heading into the third period for the first time in seven games, which was a winning effort against the Ottawa Senators, and was the last win the Habs have had since. They hold a 2-1 lead heading into the third period.
