Canadiens vs. Wild second period thread

The Habs trail 1-0 heading into the second period.

Marilyn Indahl-USA TODAY Sports

This game started like it was two teams that both played the night before were facing each other. By the five-minute mark of the first period, only five shot attempts had been exchanged, with both teams only recording one shot on net. By the ten-minute mark, each team had collected seven shot attempts a piece. The game had the appearance of two teams going with the motions.

The Wild jumped to a 1-0 lead when Mikael Granlund took a high shot that Mike Condon had trouble controlling, and the puck bounced off Condon to the front of the net where Jason Pominville stood waiting and he buried it for his fifth goal of the year. Alexei Emelin was faulted on the play, as he gave away the puck before the Wild turned it around and gave the Habs their fifth consecutive 1-0 start to a game.

Tom Gilbert sustained a lower body injury and was ruled out for the rest of the game very quickly.

With 35 seconds remaining in the period, Mikael Granlund seemed to have shoved the puck past Mike Condon as he redirected a cross-crease pass. Granlund made contact with Condon as he pushed the puck through, and it wasn't fully clear if the puck had crossed the line. The goal did not count, giving the Habs a break, and only a 1-0 deficit as we head into the second period.

The Habs only managed 6 shots on net on 15 shot attempts in the first period.
