Canadiens vs. Stars second period thread

The Habs trail 1-0 heading into the second period.

The Habs gave up the first goal of the game 1:34 in, with Jason Spezza putting home his 12th of the season on a pump-fake move streaking down the wing.  By the five-minute mark of the first period, the Habs were leading 7-4 in shot attempts, but had only gotten through one shot on net.

The Habs continued to dominate in possession, leading 17-8 in shot attempts with five minutes left in the first period.

Alexei Emelin took a rough hit without the puck from Patrick Eaves, giving the Habs a chance on the powerplay. The powerplay was cut short after creating a couple of chances when Andre Markov was sent off for interference with 40 seconds remaining in the man-advantage. The Stars took a penalty during their powerplay, with Dallas Eakin getting his stick high on P.K. Subban.

The Habs rang two posts on the subsequent powerplay. Inches from tying the game, the Canadiens gave up a breakaway with second remaining in the period, but Mike Condon made the save to keep the Stars' lead 1-0 heading into the second period.
