The Habs continued their dominant puck-possession, and though they weren't getting a lot of shots through at first, continued to mount a consistent attack that resulted in a couple of chances requiring intervention from Jonathan Quick.
The Habs started to regress, as will happen in a tilt like this against a good team like the Kings. Jonathan Quick had done his job, stopping everything thrown his way, including a number of really good chances the Habs just don't seem to have the edge to put through anymore. The Kings tested Mike Condon midway through the second period, but he was remaining solid despite facing half as many shots as his counterpart down the ice.
The Canadiens went to the penalty kill, P.K. Subban going off for interference. Just as the penalty expired, Drew Doughty hammered a shot top corner from the blue-line to put the Kings up 1-0. Doughty would set up a goal 1:35 later on a cross-crease pass to Anze Kopitar who was left wide open sneaking down the far side. The Habs were outshooting the Kings 26-15 at that moment, but now trailed 2-0.
Jonathan Quick was good once again in the second. Mike Condon was also solid, and could do nothing on either goal scored by the Kings, unless you can fault him for not getting in front of Doughty's perfectly placed lazerbeam. The Canadiens just seem to be missing a gear tonight that can put them over the top.
One period to go.
