Canadiens vs. Islanders: Game Thread, roster, lines, and how to watch

The Habs welcome John Tavares and the Islanders to the Bell Center for their first meeting of the year.

While the Habs played one of their better games on Tuesday against the Ottawa Senators in a losing effort, the Senators were without two of their most important players in Clarke MacArthur and Mark Stone.

It appeared as though the Canadiens would also face an Islanders team without their best player, as John Tavares was in the midst of a strange sickness that doctors could only label as the flu, but the New York Islanders captain will be back tonight to play for the first time in three games.

The Habs might not necessarily be looking to "bounce back" tonight against the Isles. In Tuesday's loss to the Senators in overtime they recorded 71 shot attempts and 37 shots on net. Mike Condon was excellent once again in his first career loss, making 25 saves, and gave up the overtime goal on a clear-cut three-on-one.

The Canadiens usually play very well against the Islanders, having won all three match-ups last year, each by two goals (6-4, 3-1, 3-1).  Tomas Plekanec was the best Hab in those games, having collected five points. It would be great for Plekanec and his linemates to get the scoring touch back tonight, as that line hasn't scored five-versus-five since playing the Buffalo Sabres seven games ago in a 7-2 win.

Without this top-line contribution, the Habs still scored 21 goals, but clearly need their top line to produce, having gone 3-2-1 over their last six.

The puck drops at 7:30PM EST.
