Saturday night hockey with Bob Cole's voice is one of the most nostalgic things in the world for me. If only Rogers could lure Harry Neale back into the Hockey Night fold, they would have the monopoly on classic Canadian NHL commentators.
The Habs picked up right where they left off last night, forcing Corey Schneider into a couple of good saves before the ice had barely a mark on it. The Devils didn't get their first shot attempt until over three minutes played, while the Habs had already registered three shots on net.
The Devils eventually found their feet, forcing Mike Condon to be solid, and drew a penalty midway through the first period. Both these teams are ranked in the top five for special teams, with the Canadiens ranked second in the league in penalty-killing. The Habs were aggressive on the penalty kill, looking for the sixth shorthanded goal of the year. The Habs are ranked second in shorthanded goals, one behind the Ottawa Senators.
The Habs had a powerplay chance but despite extensive time in the offensive zone they did not convert.
The perennial defensiveness of Devils games continues.
