Canadiens vs. Rangers second period thread

The Habs lead 1-0 after a solid first period effort.

Eric Bolte-USA TODAY Sports

Sven Andrighetto was a factor on Sunday against the Isles, using his speed to draw penalties and make an impact every time he was on the ice. Picking up tonight where he left off on Sunday, Andrighetto was rewarded with his first goal of the season, and third NHL goal of his career, swiping home a rebound created by a Lars Eller tip off a P.K. Subban shot from the point (with P.K. getting his NHL second-best 19th assist on the play).

The Habs came out with a lot of jump, pushing the tempo and jumping to an 8-4 lead in shot attempts before the first TV timeout. The Rangers couldn't mount much of an attack, and were being hemmed in their own zone. The line of Alex Galchenyuk, Lars Eller and Sven Andrighetto almost scored their second goal of the night, but Andrighetto was unable to get off a clean shot on the pass he took from Galchenyuk who fired it to him in the slot from the corner.

The Habs played a great first period, only finding themselves in trouble when they gave the Rangers an opportunity on the powerplay late in the period. Until that moment, the Habs led 18-10 in shot attempts, but by the end of the period the Rangers cut down that lead to 19-15.
