Canadiens vs. Islanders second period thread

The Habs trail 1-0 heading into the second period.

Andy Marlin-USA TODAY Sports

The Habs and Isles played a very even start to the game, looking like two teams that played each other two nights ago. This is already the third time these teams are playing this season, so it's no surprise they're familiar with one another.

Eventually, the pace would split in favour of the Canadiens, with Sven Andrighetto using his speed along the boards to draw Brian Strait into an interference penalty. The powerplay would be good for a couple of shots, but could not beat Thomas Greiss who is playing very well again tonight.

With a 1:19 remaining in the first, John Tavares beat Jeff Petry to a loose puck in front of the net and put the Islanders up 1-0. The Habs tried to respond immediately, but were beat by the buzzer and will have to wait until the second period begins to answer for giving up the late goal to the Islanders.

The Habs had 25 shot attempts in the first period, but only hit the net 10 times.
