Montreal Canadiens

  • Zach Fucale will start in net for Canada in its quarter-final match-up in the WJC. So far, Fucale has started two games and let in one goal, and will head into the game with a .975 save percentage. [TSN]

  • Fresh off his 6-point night, Michael McCarron has been traded from the London Knights to the Oshawa Generals in exchange for two second round picks, a third round pick, Cliff Pu, and Josh Sterk. [EOTP]

  • Nathan Beaulieu is poised to become a solid d-man, although he still has some ways to go. [RDS] (French)
  • P.A. Parenteau: ignored shootout artist? He is the deciding factor in Montreal's 5-1 record in shootouts, and his four goals on six shots is the best on the team. And even with only six goals and nine assists in 37 games, Parenteau has been a better asset to the Habs than Danny Briere has been so far to the Avs. [The Hockey Writers]

Around the League and Elsewhere

  • The Chicago Blackhawks and the Washington Capitals played the Winter Classic with little "CR" stickers on their helmets, to remind them of Clint Reif, a Blackhawks equipment managers who passed away in December. The team also made Reif a makeshift memorial, leaving a game ready locker stall in his name. [Sportsnet]

  • Some stray observations about the players in the WJC. Excellent description of Connor McDavid: "I really liked his game [against the U.S.], His hands are still catching up to his feet." [Sportsnet]
  • What do teams like the Moose Jaw Warriors, the Niagara IceDogs, and the P.E.I. Rocket have in common? A spot on the list of the CHL's worst rinks. [Yahoo Sports]
  • Alex Ovechkin gets hit in the throat with a puck during the Winter Classic, but, hey, Russian Machine Never Breaks. [SB Nation]
  • Troy Brouwer scores the winning goal for the Caps in the final twelve seconds of the game. [Gfycat]
