Montreal Canadiens Links

  • Despite sitting near the top of the Eastern Conference standings, the Habs need to address their atrocious power play now, if not sooner. They have an efficiency of just 13.7%, good enough for 28th in the NHL; right on par with the Edmonton Oilers. [La Presse]
  • Sidney Crosby joked around about Carey Price's wicked windmill glove save, laughing while saying: "I'll have to talk to him about that glove save, he made it look a little harder than I think it was." But the NHL's best player wasn't short on compliments about his former Sochi 2014 teammate, adding: "He's a great goalie. When you play against him, you know you're gonna earn your goals. He did a great job, he always does." [TVA]
  • Speaking of Carey Price and Sidney Crosby, the NHL Network botched a pre-game graphic of the two, putting the Philadelphia Flyers background behind Crosby and the Boston Bruins background behind Price. [EOTP]
  • Several stars were not selected to the NHL All-Star Game, including Canadiens stars Max Pacioretty and P.K. Subban, as well as former Habs goalie Jaroslav Halak[TVA]
  • Canadiens prospect Dalton Thrower, playing for the Brampton Beast of the ECHL, has been suspended five games and fined an undisclosed amount. [ECHL]
  • Chris Cochrane has named World Juniors gold medal winner and Habs top prospect Zach Fucale second on the all-time Halifax Mooseheads list. [The Chronicle Herald]

Around the League and Elsewhere

  • Teemu Selanne's number 8 jersey was retired by the Anaheim Ducks yesterday. It is the first jersey ever retired by the franchise. [Anaheim Calling]
  • Just a day after being named to the NHL All-Star Game, Detroit Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard has been placed on injured reserve with a groin injury. [Winging It In Motown]
  • Speaking of injured goaltenders, Philadelphia Flyers goalie Steve Mason will be out two weeks with a lower body injury. [TSN]
  • Colorado Eagles goaltender Tate Maris won his first game in over seven years this weekend. The 26-year-old goalie was called up to the ECHL club as an emergency backup after one goalie was injured and the other called up to the AHL. [Puck Daddy]
  • And lastly, in case you were wondering... Yes, Mats Zuccarello of the New York Rangers is tall enough to ride a carousel. [SN Nation]
