Montreal Canadiens Links

  • Canadiens have trimmed down the roster ahead of Sunday's preseason game against the Capitals. Nikita Scherbak was sent back to juniors to join his new team, the Everett Silvertips. On another surprising note, defenseman Magnus Nygren was sent down to Hamilton. Michel Therrien has said that Nygren will be staying in North America no matter what, but time will tell soon if that is true. [Fansided]
  • Check out the Habs "Notebook". There are videos and an in-depth look at the current events of the Habs. [Canadiens]
  • Here's USA Today's prediction for the Habs this year. They think we will finish third in the Atlantic Division. For some reason nobody ever gives the Habs any respect prior to the season, but maybe that's a good thing. [USA Today]
  • Now see what TSN projects for the Habs this year. Who likes the Habs more? [TSN]
  • Still not sure how you're going to watch the Habs this year with the new broadcasting schedules? We have put together something for you right here. [EOTP]
  • After a huge round of cuts, the Canadiens iced a lineup full of NHL players against the Capitals with the exception of just three young hopefuls. [RDS] (French)

Outside of Montreal

  • Kris Versteeg was one of the better depth forwards in the league in 2011-12, and led the Florida Panthers to the Division Championship. Two long years filled with injury and inconsistency and Versteeg is looking for a bounce-back season. [NHL]
  • Jaden Schwartz has signed a new two-year deal with the Blues worth $4.7M. Schwartz had a breakout rookie season last year for the Blues and agreed to the new deal after holding out all summer. [Yahoo]
  • What does the injury of Derek Stepan mean for the New York Rangers? I think we all know, and it's not good. [SB Nation]
  • The San Jose Sharks have stripped Joe Thornton of the "C", but that doesn't mean he's not still the leader of the team. [NHL]
  • Former Hab Mike Komisarek has been released from the New Jersey Devils. The former first-round draft pick has gone from a 2009 All-Star to seemingly out of the league in five short years. [Fansided]
