Canadiens vs Avalanche game thread

As opposed to yesterday's game, we'll see a much more rookie-friendly lineup from the Habs tonight.

It's common for teams to avoid sending their best players to non-NHL cities, and in tonight's game versus the Avalanche that will take place in Québec City, there's no exception from the Habs.

A few veterans made the trip, including Tom Gilbert, David Desharnais and Brandon Prust, but the majority of the lineup will be composed of players who are fighting to make the big club, or at least get noticed.

Dustin Tokarski and Joey MacDonald will split the netminding duties, and they'll be insulated by a rather young defensive lineup. They may be young, but the defense does feature some of the best prospects Montreal has in that position, including Nathan Beaulieu, Jarred Tinordi and Magnus Nygren.

Nikita Scherbak will start his third preseason game in a row, which indicates that Habs management wants to take every opportunity possible to see him in action before deciding whether or not to send him back to the WHL.Jiri Sekac will take part in this game, and will be looked upon to provide some offense for what is clearly an inferior roster than the one submitted by the Avalanche.

We'll have to keep an eye on Tim Bozon, who will be making his first preseason NHL start in his career, this after recovering from a terrible bout of life-threatening meningitis this summer, should be considered a huge step forward for the young man.

Puck drop is at 7:30 PM EST, at the Colisée Pepsi de Québec.

The game will be carried on TV by RDS, and online via GameCenter Live.

Unfortunately, since it's preseason we don't have an accurate idea of the lineups or even who the Avalanche are putting on the roster at this point, but we'll update it as soon as the information is available.

This is the official roster list, so we'll do our best to anticipate the lines.
