Wednesday Habs Links: Weise the first Canadien to re-up

Your Habs and NHL news for the day in links form.

In case you missed it yesterday, Dale Weise re-signed with the Habs for two more years at a reasonable price.

As the Weise negotiations wrapped up, according to Brian Gionta's agent, his contract talks are just getting serious.

Reports have leaked that Andrei Markov wants a three year deal worth $18M. If that's the opening volley of his negotiations, expect a deal to get done rather easily, for either two years for around that, or three years for slightly less money.

Gerard Gallant is among the finalists for the coaching job with the Florida Panthers, with Dan Bylsma, Marc Crawford, and Billy-Joe Viola.

Around the NHL

The Kings have won two cups in three years, and had a conference final appearance in the middle, they're clearly the modern blueprint for success.

After three years of failure, the Sabres finally put Ville Leino on waivers with the intent to buy him out.

Similarly, the Canucks have decided to buyout David Booth, who at 29 and after a couple injury plagued seasons where he scored on just 6.9% of his shots, could be a great buy low candidate for the Habs.

The Rangers are also likely to buyout Brad Richards, just three years into his nine year contract. The savings could help them retain Anton Stralman, annoyingly.
