Montreal Canadiens news:
- It's no surprise that all eyes were on Patrick Roy as the Avalanche faced the Canadiens last night.
- As expected, Roy received a very warm welcome from the fans in his first game at the Bell Centre as a head coach.
- The good news is that Thomas Vanek stole the show, scoring his first goal as a member of the Habs. He went on to score a hat trick. With the win Montreal took hold of second in the Atlantic division.
- Prospect Mac Bennett was named to the second Big Ten All-Conference team.
- Zachary Fucale took home the Jacques-Plante trophy in the QJMHL, given to the goalie who kept the lowest goals against average throughout the season.
- Mike Condon also received some praise. He was named the goalie of the week in the ECHL.
- Marc Antoine Godin recounts the crazy season Devan Dubnyk has gone through.
- Alyson Lozoff spoke to Thomas Vanek, and he reassured her that he'd be crazy not to consider signing with the Habs this off-season, however he wants to keep his options open as free agency might be a one in a lifetime opportunity for him.
News and notes from around the league:
- Harrison Mooney wrote and performed another fantastic parody, and it's well worth a listen.
- James Mirtle takes a look at the playoff push, and estimates that 92 points will be the minimum needed to attend the big dance. Sorry Senators! Maybe next year.
- However, Ottawa mayor Jim Watson seems to think the Sens have a good chance of making the playoffs.
- Evan Sporer wrote about star Jamie Benn being the centerpiece to the Stars rebuild.
- SB Nation College took a look at the possible Hobey Baker award finalists.
