An up tempo game from the opening faceoff led to Montreal dominating the majority of the frame. The power play remains anemic, but puck possession was the name of the game in the first, and it showed.
The best scoring chance of the period came from an Alex Galchenyuk partial breakaway, via an Alexei Emelin pass. Rask made the save, along with 12 other stops during the period.
