Beyond the emotional pre-game ceremony and the novelty of these new lines, we have a very good game on our hands. The Canadiens have looked dominant at both ends, getting looks at Ryan Miller and stifling Vancouver's offense. The player usage has been positively uplifting - Andrighetto seeing PP time! Galchenyuk leading Montreal forwards in icetime! Sergei Gonchar playing a ton - well some things don't change.
Fittingly former Vancouver Giant, Brendan Gallagher got the scoring going with a wrist shot off Brad Richardson. In some weird twist of fate Gallagher lured Richardson into a high sticking penalty and then as luck would have Derek Dorsett scored a stupid short handed goal on the ensuing Montreal power play. What a funny game (hockey in general, not this game in particular).
Lots of Montreal pressure and not like lots for a Montreal game where they get 1 or 2 chances, this is like sustained pressure for a regular NHL game. Like you'd need two hands to keep track of the chances.
I have to say as much as I am deflated by a missed goal or post shot, I love hearing that audible ping echo throughout the rink when it does happen. "Missed it by that much."
