After taking a hit from behind from Ryan Garbutt, Canadiens defenseman Mike Weaver didn't take another shift in Saturday's loss to Dallas. According to Patrick Friolet of RDS, Weaver suffered a concussion on the play, which means he'll be out at least the next two weeks, should the Habs follow standard concussion protocols.
Fellow defenseman Bryan Allen is also out currently, suffering from the flu, meaning the Canadiens should be recalling a defenseman from the Hamilton Bulldogs today, likely around 5pm Eastern Standard Time, as they usually do.
Weaver hasn't had a very great start to the season, and luckily the Canadiens are very well insulated against his injury, with P.K. Subban, Sergei Gonchar, and Tom Gilbert all right side defensemen. Where the Canadiens will most feel Weaver's loss is on the penalty kill, however P.K. Subban took over his duties against Dallas, and although that's more stress on P.K., it's also an improvement for the team.
The Canadiens calling up either Nathan Beaulieu or Jarred Tinordi should improve their third pairing overall.
