According to RDS, Lars Eller was back at Canadiens practice this morning in Brossard. Eller and Mike Weaver were both wearing burgundy practice jerseys, meaning that they are not cleared for contact as of yet.
While there has been less news about Weaver, it seems that Eller is closer to a return, but since he isn't taking contact yet, it seems very unlikely that he would play on Tuesday against the Carolina Hurricanes, or on Thursday against the Anaheim Ducks. Saturday's Hockey Night in Canada broadcast against the Ottawa Senators seems much more likely to be the target date for Eller's return to the lineup, and where we will see the thought process of the coaching staff.
Eller's return places head coach Michel Therrien in an interesting position. Alex Galchenyuk has been more than adequate in his first couple of games as the top line center, and David Desharnais has held his own on the third line, though his possession game crumbled against Los Angeles. Eller's talents are much better suited to center than the wing, but Therrien is unlikely to go with four skilled lines and scratch Manny Malhotra, so who moves to the wing?
It's one of the most interesting, and important storylines of the Canadiens' season.
