Canadiens vs Sabres game thread & lineups

Less than 24 hours after an embarrassing 2-1 loss to the lowly Sabres in Buffalo, Montreal is back at it again. Habs take another crack at the express elevator to Connor McDavid in Montreal

Kevin Hoffman-USA TODAY Sports

Back at it again (in more ways than one)! Everyone loved that Sabres-Habs contest so much they decided to go back and do it all again tonight in Montreal. It's like they channeled Ernie Banks for a moment.

The less said about last night the better, but I hope that Bryan Allen is scratched and Tom Gilbert is rightfully returned to the lineup. Who knows, maybe it'll be Alexei Emelin who is hooked from the lineup and Bryan Allen will be shoehorned into his minutes on the second pairing. I'm already dreading tonight just thinking about it.

Alexei Emelin has been fined for his hit to the head of Brian Gionta last night to the tune of 11,000 dollars, but he has not been suspended.

The Sabres may have at least on change to their forward lines tonight. Drew Stafford left the game at the end of the first and did not return due to an upper body (possibly elbow) injury. Stafford will travel with the team to Montreal and take part in the morning skate, but he remains a game time decision.

If Stafford doesn't play the Sabres could either call someone up from the Amerks (they're playing in Binghamton tonight) or dress 7 D with Andre Benoit drawing in.

As this is the second half of a back-to-back expect back-up netminders Dustin Tokarski and Michael Neuvirth to guard their respective nets. Jhonas Enroth will start for the Sabres as Buffalo sticks with what works.

Puck drop is at 7:00 PM EST (8:30 PM In Newfoundland!)
