Canadiens vs Red Wings game thread & lineups

Montreal takes to the road as Habs look to rock Red Wings in Detroit for sixth straight win

Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

Owners of a 5 game win streak, the Canadiens roll into Detroit to face the Red Wings after a very successful four game homestand. Dustin Tokarski will spell Carey Price in nets in the second of back-to-back games, but that might be the only change to a lineup that has found a fair amount of success despite its somewhat unorthodox approach (11 forwards, 7 defense with Nathan Beaulieu seeing time as both).

The Wings will sit Daniel Cleary (not at all surprising), Andrej Nestrasil (last name sounds like fast acting nasal spray that requires a prescription), and Jakub Kindl. Kindl has played over 200 NHL games, but still has never solidified a spot in Detroit's top four. Brian Lashoff will skate alongside Brendan Smith in his place.

Looking over Detroit's lineup - specifically Niklas Kronwall - I can't help but think of hockey playing brothers. The Leafs drafted Staffan Kronwall and quite obviously picked the wrong brother, but at 285th overall it wasn't that big a roll of the dice. I'm intrigued by teams who fall in love with bloodlines and end up getting things wrong like the Ferraro twins when the Rangers drafted both of them in 1992 and neither panned out. Washington with Brian Sakic, Montreal with Marcel Hossa, or whoever has Jared Staal. It's not always a colossal mistake and the Canadiens parlayed Marcel Hossa into the legendary Garth Murray, but I just find it interesting.

Have a favorite NHL brother combo? Always was intrigued by the Dionnes because of the huge age difference between Marcel and Gilbert.
