Montreal Canadiens Links

  • With the final cuts looming this week, the Habs will finally have to reveal what their plan is for the backup goalie. Will it be Budaj or Tokarski? Pat Hickey tells us his thoughts. [Montreal Gazette]
  • With PK Subban signing his massive eight-year, $72M deal this offseason, making him the highest paid player ever, on the most storied hockey franchise ever, some would say he is on the "hot seat" to perform. NHL.com feels that way, as they listed PK Subban as one of the players in the Eastern Conference who is feeling the heat. [NHL]
  • See all of the pregame interviews and reports prior to the Habs taking on the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday night. The Habs iced what seemingly could be called an AHL team, aside from Lars Eller and Rene Bourque, against the Blackhawks. In other words, it's time to impress the coaches if you want to make the Habs roster. [Canadiens]
  • Check out these videos from TSN regarding the Habs and their intention to build off last year's surprising playoff run. [TSN]
  • With most teams in the Eastern Conference improving, it makes it very hard for people to predict what will happen. See what TSN has to say about where all of the teams will fall, including the Habs, right here. [TSN]
  • The Habs went from worst to first between 2011 and 2013, and then made a magical playoff run to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2014, sweeping the favored Tampa Bay Lightning, breaking the hearts of the President's Trophy winning arch rival Boston Bruins, and taking the New York Rangers to six games before bowing out with our third string goalie in net. Most hockey "experts" still place the Habs behind both the Lightning and the Bruins in their Atlantic Division previews, but one thing is for certain, the Habs will be taken seriously from now on, in no small part due to GM Marc Bergevin's changes. Outside of Montreal

  • The face of the NHL, Sidney Crosby, will make his preseason debut tonight after battling some injury issues and the loss of a loved one. [ESPN]
  • The saga of the Ryan Johansen and Columbus Blue Jackets negotiations have continued today and Michael Arace of the Columbus Dispatch gives us his inside take on what is going on. [Columbus Dispatch]
  • Here is some more bad news for the Blue Jackets, one of their other promising young forwards, Boone Jenner, will be out with a broken hand for five weeks. The 2011 second-round draft pick had 16 goals and 29 points in 79 games last year for the Blue Jackets, but really turned it on in the playoffs, scoring 5 points in 6 games against the Pittsburgh Penguins. [Blue Jackets]
  • It doesn't look like GM Ken Holland and coach Mike Babcock have been talking extension in Detroit as much as the media all over the NHL has. Holland said today that they are "not close" to an extension. [Winning it in Motown]
  • Take a look at the biggest question marks facing each Eastern Conference team heading into the season. I think the Montreal Canadiens question is really pretty weak, which is a good thing actually, NHL.com couldn't come up with a better one. [NHL]
