The Montreal Canadiens kicked off their pre-season schedule Sunday night against Buffalo, but the real hockey doesn't start for another two weeks. As a result, we have borrowed an idea from Mets fans on Twitter to create a new project that is sure to distract you until the Leafs and Habs kick off the season on October first.
On September 24 at 5 PM, Andrew Berkshire (@AndrewBerkshire) and I (@HabArik35) will take turns drafting 20 Twitter accounts each that we feel provide fans with the best and most well-rounded views and information on the team. The rest of the EOTP team will be split between the two teams randomly and will serve as scouts (you'll be finding out the teams of scouts tomorrow).
If you have a Twitter account, you can follow the draft by using the hashtag "HabsTwitterDraft", and that includes all of the preparations that will take place over the next week. If you don't have one, then we will have a live thread updating the picks as they happen on the site. Feel free to weigh in on the comments. Or, you know, now would be a good time to get involved in that whole Twitter thing if you haven't yet.
Over the next few days, our staff will be providing you with pre-draft rankings, pre-draft interviews, and much more. Andrew and Mike (@HabsLaughs) will be giving you some draft-floor rumors on their weekly radio show right before the draft. When all is said and done, it will be up to you to vote which team is the best, simply based on the quality of the Twitter accounts.
In order to ensure that the squads are well-rounded, we have instituted some draft requirements.
Each team must be composed of at least:
-At least 2 current Canadiens players
-At least 1 current Canadiens prospect
-At least 2 members of the English Montreal media
-At least 2 members of the French Montreal media
-At least 1 Hamilton Bulldogs related follow (non-player)
-At least 2 non-EOTP bloggers
-At least 2 accounts with less than 300 followers
-The rest is totally open, as long as it's related to the Canadiens in some form
And just because you're not famous or don't have a lot of followers, doesn't mean you can't be drafted. Both Andrew and I will be attempting to find diamonds in the rough. As a result, between now and September 24th, feel free to tweet at our site account (@HabsEOTP) 140 characters worth of reasons why you deserve to be drafted. Make sure to use the #HabsTwitterDraft as well. We're hoping to make this a yearly staple, and in order to do that we need you to stay involved. Let's get #HabsTwitterDraft trending by the end of the night!
