Overseas Habs & Prospects Weekly Report 11

For the first time in this lockout, it seemed like this feature may not have been needed anymore, but here we are back to square one.

Name League Team Timeline Games Goals Assists Points
Tomas Plekanec Czech Extraliga Kladno Last Week 3 2 2 4

Total 27 20 21 41

A solid week from Plekanec, but not as dominant as recent weeks. How well he's playing with Jagr in Kladno makes me really wish that gambling addict had signed here instead of boring old Dallas.

Eller had a much slower week, but still very solid for SM Liiga standards. Eller has been held without a point in just a single game in Finland, currently riding a 6 game points streak. Eller may cool off a little, but over the 9 games he's played, he has been Jyvaskyla's best player by miles.

Light week for Diaz with only one game on the schedule. Nothing much to see there other than he's still a defenseman that's over a point per game.

An assist is nice, and 15 points in 26 games isn't a bad mark for the young Swiss defenseman, but it's now 21 games without a goal for a defenseman who's known more for his shot than anything. What's going on?

Woah! Maybe that rib injury did Markov some good, because this is more like the guy we remember. Markov began the week with a Gordie Howe hat trick, and topped it off with another 2 assists. 4 points in 3 games after just one assist in 11 games could be a bit of a turning point. After nearly 2 years away from hockey, is the Markov we remember finally back?

Total 15 6 2 8

Really solid week from Collberg with 2 goals and 1 assist in 3 games. A point per game week is just the kind of thing we want to see from him in the Allsvenskan. We'll get to see a lot more of Collberg coming up as he should be a star for Sweden's WJC team over the holidays. Collberg scored 4 goals and 3 assists in 6 games last year in the WJC as a 17 year old, and he'll still have another year of eligibility for the tournament after this year.

Held off the scoresheet last night for just the 6th time in 30 games, Galchenyuk is hitting every expectation Habs fans have of him. 2nd in the OHL in points as an 18 year old, only 19 year old, the 5th overall pick from the 2011 NHL entry draft, has outscored him. Galchenyuk is likely going to be the go-to player for scoring for Team USA in the upcoming WJC.

Walsh this week finally looked like the boss that he was in brief playing time last year, doubling his point total on the season in just 2 games. It's a little late in the game for Walsh to start looking like a legitimate prospect, but could he surprise us all?
