"The 21-year-old from Edmonton, AB, finished third on the team and 15th among all WHL defensemen in scoring with 48 points, including a career-high 12 goals, in 68 games this season, and helped hold together a Rebels’ blue line that was decimated by injuries over the course of the season." A little more from the WHL above, including all of the league's winners; Petrovic is currently playing with the AHL's San Antonio Rampage.
Here is a video I found uploaded two days ago that details the history of the Calgary Hitmen of the WHL. A good chunk of the middle of the video centre around Ryan Getzlaf and what he does to give back to the city of Calgary. He runs something called "Getzlaf's Gamers", a function that sends underprivileged kids to Hitmen games in a rented box with food and necessities. A good watch that definitely changed my opinion of Getzy for the better. EDIT: More info on Getzlaf's Gamers found here: http://www.hitmenhockey.com/page/getzlaf-s-gamers JuMowbray
We're linking to our friends over at Bolt Prospects here who covered the news from out west that Tri-City has been in talks with the Tampa Bay Lightning regarding the likelihood of RW Brett Connolly being sent back to Juniors. (For those who didn't know, Connolly's rights were traded fro m the Prince George Cougars of the WHL to teh Tri-City Americans several weeks ago) The Bolts have until February 27th to decide Connolly's fate.
From the Warriors' official site: Howden picked up nine points, scoring five goals and four assists to go with a +5 rating, in three games this past week, helping the Warriors to 1-1-1-0 record.
Bruce Peter at Puck Worlds reports that the Tri-City Americans of the WHL took to dirty tactics against Saskatoon, doling out questionable hit after questionable hit. The video in the link is not the hit on Hamilton, but as you'll read, he took a shot too.
From BTN's Neate Sager: Make what you will of a report (Josh) Birkholz, 19, who was facing a suspension at Minnesota for violating team rules, "allegedly failed multiple drug tests this summer." That means he is going to the WHL with some questions about character, which the Silvertips would surely have heard about (...) It's not something any firm conclusions can be drawn from. No one is so naive to think 19-year-old elite hockey players are exempt from youthful indiscretions; just look at what happened at Notre Dame recently. The main point of mentioning it is to pass on word of an element of the story that might have been underplayed in WHL circles(.) Birkholz, 19, was Florida's third round pick in 2009 (acquired in the Bouwmeester trade from CGY). More above, with links. Update: Clarification from Birkholz regarding the matter.
According to this, David Toews is leaving UND after two seasons and will be playing in the WHL next season. Team has yet to be determined.
