The Sarnia Sting announced today that Canadiens 2012 1st round pick Alex Galchenyuk will be their captain for 2012-13. Many fans hoped to see Galchenyuk play at least at the AHL level this season, but with the NHL in limbo, fans in Ontario will at least get to have peek at the 18-year-old center. Galchenyuk, who made his debut at No. 3 in our annual Top 25 Under 25, missed most of last season with a knee injury, but is excited to start the season this Friday against the Belleville Bulls. Earlier this week, the Candiens fourth round pick in 2012, Brady Vail, was named an alternate captain for Sarnia's rival, the Windsor Spitfires. To no real surprise, Canadiens defensemen Alexei Emelin will play for the KHL's AK Bars Kazan during the lockout. Emelin's agent Don Meehan confirmed it this afternoon with the Sports Business Journal.
Seriously good hockey story here.
A rare chance to see Islanders' junior prospects as Ryan Strome (Team OHL) takes on Andrey Pedan (Team Russia) at 7pm. And it's free!

Illegal Curve breaks this one because the Jets official site kinda sucks when it comes to updating. Good move, of course, since we'd been calling for it from the get-go. Let's hope he focuses on his skating, faceoffs, and filling out his physique down there, as all three were clearly an issue.
Yahoo Sports Junior themed hockey blog, Buzzing the Net, reports OHL director of scouting, Rob Kitamura, is lleavign his position with the OHL to become a scout with the tampa Bay Lightning. It may just seem like a small bit of unimportant news, but when the guy responsible for the selection of (then) junior level stars Drew Doughty, Logan Coture and P.K. Subban is the scout in question... Well, it makes things interesting.
The Bruins organization has signed defenseman Marc Cantin of the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors to an entry-level contract. The 6'1" 201 lb blue liner recorded 10 goals and 31 assists in 61 games this season in the OHL as a 20-year-old.
Just when things were starting to look up, Panthers prospect Erik Gudbranson was suspended indefinitely by the OHL for his "body of work" over the weekend.
The OHL Prospects blog takes a look at one of Martindale's latest games. It seems the big kid is turning the corner. If he can keep it up, Scott Campbell thinks he's got a little bit of Joe Thornton in him.
