From the Penguin's Joe Vitale's twitter feed today. He's in Haiti with Jordan Staal and Matt Cooke this week for a humanitarian cause related to an orphanage there. I believe Matt Cooke was the organizer. Guess you can get Penguins #11 jerseys pretty cheap these days.

With Staal playing great, it's worthwhile to look back at the decision to make him the second-overall pick in 2006. There were certainly alternatives, but things seem to have worked out well for all parties.

While Sidney Crosby continues a torrid pace to lead the streaking Penguins, Jordan Staal's season isn't going as smoothly. It looks as if Staal might not be ready to make his season debut by mid-December as the team had hoped, assuming mid-December is taken literally. A return to practice isn't imminent for Staal, who is recovering from surgery on a broken right hand, and it would seem he would need at least a few practices before he plays. "He's not close enough that I know [about it]," coach Dan Bylsma said Wednesday of Staal getting clearance to practice. Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

"It is not an Achilles' (injury) and he is not ruled out for the remainder of the playoffs," Bylsma said after Saturday's skate. "He had a procedure to repair a tendon from a cut on the top of his foot and he will be day-to-day from here on out. So, it is not an out for the remainder of the playoffs." -- Head Coach Dan Bylsma
