Once again Eyes on the Prize has made a free agent signing in early July, as we're happy to announce we've scooped up Jack Han, formerly of the Canadiens official website, to come aboard as a columnist.
Here is Jack introducing himself:
First of all, big thanks to Andrew for inviting me to join EOTP. Beyond crunching numbers and writing about the NHL, I am currently working on a few (actual job) things which may prevent me from contributing to the community as often as I would like. That being said, I am very much looking forward to exploring some alternative theories in the context of our favorite NHL franchise.
Those already familiar with my Number Cruncher column, which ran on Canadiens.com during the 2013-14 season, already know that I'm a big fan of using statistical analysis. The way I see it, numbers aren't the story, but they do a really good job of helping us discover what's important and which conventional narratives are worth challenging. Everyone emotionally invested in the success of the Canadiens has a sense of the team's rich and illustrious history. It's a point of pride, to be sure, but also a source of misperception. It's very difficult to think about the game in an objective way in this city, whether you're a fan, a player or part of team management. Using facts to unpack some of that baggage may make our lives a bit more pleasant and, perhaps, bring the Stanley Cup back to Montreal a little bit sooner. Just my thought.
Feel free to ask me anything in the comment section below, and I'll do my best to give a satisfactory answer.
Give Jack a warm welcome to EOTP, and follow him on twitter.
