The always underrated Brian Gionta was announced as the winner of the Jacques-Beauchamp trophy for 2014, as voted by the Montreal media.
The Jacques-Beauchamp trophy is given to the member of the Canadiens that played a dominant role throughout the season, without picking up any particular honour while doing so.
Gionta constantly faces the top opposition, and albeit he played with a top quality center in Tomas Plekanec for the majority of the season, it was clear that Gionta was one of the best players when it came to facing top QoC and still producing. The Rochester N.Y. native put up 17 goals and 22 assists in 80 games this year.
The votes were quite close this year, as Gionta took home the award with 66 total points in the overall standings. Brendan Gallagher finished second with 64 points, and Plekanec finished third with 51.
