Ice Level with Andrew Berkshire

UPDATE: Listen to the podcast!

Tonight on Ice Level, we’re looking ahead. This upcoming season the AHL has changed the rules for overtime, in an effort to reduce the number of shootouts:

“Sudden-death overtime will be seven minutes during the regular season, preceded by a “dry scrape” of the entire ice surface. Teams will change ends at the start of overtime and play 4-on-4 at full strength until the first whistle after three minutes of play, at which time teams will play 3-on-3 for the duration of the extra session.

If the game is still tied after overtime, a winner will be determined by a three-player shootout.”

Is this something we want for the NHL?

In the dog days of summer, players who are undervalued or of little value are the only ones left. Most of the players worth much have already signed their deals, but who gives the best value to their new team on a sweetheart deal? Maybe Mike Ribeiro?

The arbitration dates for P.K. Subban and especially Lars Eller are closing in fast, is it time for Canadiens fans to worry?
