The Hamilton Bulldogs were downed 3-2 in a shootout by the Toronto Marlies, in front of a sold out crowd at Copps Coliseum on Saturday night. The Bulldogs have lost 4 straight, the last 2 coming by way of shootout.
Tim Connolly, playing his first game as a Marlie since his demotion from the Leafs, opened the scoring at 15:52 of the first period. Connolly skated into the Bulldogs zone, weaved to the left side and fired a shot back across Cedrick Desjardins, beating him glove side.
Michael Bournival tied the game back up just 36 seconds later when he skated into the slot, and fired a shot on net that beat Marlies goaltender Mark Owuya five-hole. The shots were 11-6 for the Marlies in the period.
There were no goals scored in the second period, which was good news for the Bulldogs, since the Marlies outshot them 15-2.
In the third, Joey Tenute gave the Bulldogs the 2-1 lead with his first goal as a `Dog. Michael Bournival put the puck on net, and the rebound bounced out to Tenute, who was crashing the net and banged it home from the top of the crease.
The Marlies tied the game with 1:50 left in the game when Ryan Hamilton, the Bulldogs killer, banged a loose puck past Cedrick Desjardins.
The Bulldogs would end up losing the game on the final shot, which was scored by Matt Frattin.
