Canadiens vs Rangers game 2 thread

Harry How

With Price out for the series, the Canadiens head into a goalie showdown without their number 1 goalie. What adjustments will the Canadiens make to their game? Can the Habs even the series before heading to Madison Square Garden?

It's a gloomy day here in Halifax and it's not just the weather. As feared, Carey Price is out for Game 2, not only is he out for Game 2, he's out for the rest of the series. If this series was decided on twitter, through the media, and EOTP comments, Montreal would do well to look towards next year. In a series that was categorized as goalie vs goalie, Montreal now looks woefully underarmed.

Thankfully this series isn't decided by comments from the "enlightened". Fortunately Montreal has a very good and very talented team playing in front of whoever is in net. Tonight it's Tokarski, but it's still going to be up to Pacioretty and co. to score goals.

I'm certainly not interested in storylines that paint Kreider as a villain. I can't tell whether it was a "hockey play" or not and I don't really enjoy the endless bickering and name calling that results from it. I'm not really interested in fan debates about that or whether losing Brassard is equal to losing Price (quick tip, it isn't). Price is out and what matters is how the Canadiens play from here on out and how Therrien adjusts to this loss. I think we all just want to see enjoyable hockey (as Pollyanna as that sounds).

My thoughts on the team going forward:

  1. I hope Douglas Murray doesn't come into the lineup as a result. (Update: And he doesn't)
  2. I hope that Alex Galchenyuk isn't rushed ahead of schedule (looks like Galchenyuk is in, according to Bob McKenzie)
  3. I wonder if Dustin Tokarski doesn't get at least one start. (looks like Dustin Tokarski gets the start)
  4. I hope we see a big game from Thomas Vanek

With Brassard out, Daniel Carcillo comes back into the Rangers lineup. With Price out, Tokarski gets the start. I like it, I like it a lot. Tokarski has played big games before - Memorial Cup, World Juniors - and has been a winner at each level. Like Andrew said this is a tough and risky call, but I think it gives Montreal the best chance to win.

With Galchenyuk in, I'd prefer to see Prust sit, but we won't know until closer to 8PM EST. My money is on Bournival sitting, which I really don't like. I'll keep you updated. Update: Bournival is out, Prust is in. Fingers crossed. Let's hope this doesn't escalate.

And for the love of god, somebody high five Jinette tonight ok?

Puck drop is at 8 PM
