Canadiens vs Bruins Top Six Minutes: HABS BEAT BRUINS

Alex Trautwig

The Habs took care of business, eliminating the "big bad Bruins" in the seventh and final game. Your Montreal Canadiens are heading to the Eastern Conference Finals.

  • Only Habs fans can understand what it's like to be more nervous for a game you're not playing in than you were for every game you ever actually played in. Combined. Not exaggerating.
  • Berkshire got asked on Edmonton radio this morning if he was on cloud nine, to which he responded: "More like hovering around the bathroom, waiting to puke." Which is how I'm sure most of us felt all day.
  • It is now 4pm Pacific time and I just narrowly avoided vomiting.
  • Two immediate icings to start the game is really anti-climactic when I think about how insanely nervous I was before puck drop.
  • I'd love a quick goal from Bourque, or Patches, or... DALE GODDAMN WEISE!!!!!!!!!! OH MY GOD WE'RE UP.
  • About that Dale Weise statue... We may need to seriously discuss this.
  • Nathan Beaulieu is really good. Much, much better than whoever that guy was who's name I already forget.
  • Brad Marchand getting an undeserved penalty is the universe's way of telling us there is such thing as justice. Please let's score on it.
  • We didn't so I hereby revoke the right for any Bruins fan to call it a decisive factor in the game.
  • Can anyone tell me why Zdeno Chara was trying to mount Max Pacioretty?  I'm not even going to ask for a penalty I just want to know what that's all about there.
  • Brendan Gallagher getting in Chara's grill in front of the Bruins net, in their building... That will make me smile every time.
  • 3 Chara bullets in a row... Apparently he doesn't know that bear hugging someone up against the boards and holding them there while the puck flutters away is against the rules. MAKE HIM PAY.
  • Complete garbage powerplay aside from a beautiful rush by Nathan Beaulieu. Insert complaint about how it took too long to play him and...

  • Nobody can tell me they're not happy after period number one. I'm stoked. Please, more of that.
  • Worst Coach's Corner ever. Not even going to dignify it with more of a response.
  • Carey Price is really good, but when the Bruins continually thwart clearing attempts I have minor cardiac episodes.
  • Brian Gionta should totally have a goal by now. He has absolutely zero shooting luck so far in the playoffs.
  • There's a joke about cake and icing somewhere with the amount of icings going on, and eventually this is bound to lead to someone scorin... MAX PACIORETTY. I CAN'T FEEL MY LEGS.
  • With a two goal lead, stands to reason we're looking at a few penalty calls... Aaaaand here. we. go.
  • I wouldn't say either of the penalties were undeserved, but I would say they were a bit more tightly called than in the first. Score effects are fun. Not good for my fucking blood pressure though.
  • And of course, the Bruins make good on attempt number two. The most unsafe lead in hockey stays true to form. Please score next, Habs.
  • A one goal lead, heading into the third with a short man advantage to start things out. Most people would be thrilled with this, but we're Habs fans, this is Boston, and it's game seven. I'm surely not alone in being sweaty and nervous.
  • We knew there wasn't going to be a goal on that short advantage, right?
  • When Iginla hit the post, I swear to Maurice Richard, I blacked out for a second. I need professional help after this game whatever the result.
  • Icings on icings on icings again. Except Boston is permitted to screw around and force the refs to figure out who was on the ice so they can buy rest time... Yep.
  • The clock is moving backwards. I swear to god it is.
  • Michael Bournival racing to beat an icing midway through the third was a thing of beauty. The rookie knows how much this matters and he's not taking a shift off. Great hustle.
  • keep the puck out keep the puck out keep it out keep it out keep it out. Get the puck out get it out get it out get it out get it out get it out get it out. GOD DAMN IT WHY IS THIS TAKING SO LONG?
  • Michael Bournival drawing a penalty was a thing of fucking beauty. That should hopefully erase a precious two minutes.
  • Or, you know... We could have DANNY BRIERE SCORE AN INSURANCE MARKER OFF THE SKATE OF CHARA OF ALL PEOPLE!!!! EVERYTHING IS HAPPENING!!!
  • Hold on boys, hold on.
  • Krejci diving like a professional to give the Bruins a late powerplay... Somebody get the defibrillator ready.
  • Mike Weaver on the ice in the final minute. What a story he's been. He deserves every bit of praise he gets. They all did a fantastic job keeping the scoring chances to a minimum as the clock ran down.
  • WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
  • THEY DID IT. THE MONTREAL CANADIENS ELIMINATED THE BOSTON BRUINS IN GAME SEVEN, WHICH WAS ALSO IN BOSTON'S ARENA. GO TELL EVERY BOSTON FAN YOU SEE THAT THIS HAPPENED SO THEY KNOW THAT IT HAPPENED AND YOU LIKED IT.
  • We're going to New York!!! Wait... You're telling me we have home ice advantage in the Eastern Conference finals???
  • FEEL FREE TO START A GIF PARTY IN THE COMMENT SECTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • EOTP 3 Stars of the night are going to the unsung, or at least insufficiently sung heroes of the series.
  • Third star is Zdeno Chara. We don't like him, but he scored the insurance marker in the third. Thanks, buddy.
  • Second star is Dale Weise. Weise is becoming one of my favourites, guys.
  • First star: Mike Weaver. Excellent job closing out the game, and excellent play in general. He has to share the first star with Carey Price though, because Price always.
