The NHL Awards - EOTP votes on the Vezina Trophy

Jeff Gross

The NHL awards are often awarded to people who don't deserve them, so we decided to have our own awards. The rules of the game were simple, nine members of EOTP voted on the awards, each person voting for three people for each award, 3 points for a 1st place vote, 1 for 3rd place. In order to remove bias, we could not vote for anyone affiliated with the Montreal Canadiens.

The Vezina Trophy is awarded annually to the National Hockey League's goaltender who is adjudged to be the best at this position. The award is named after Canadiens great Georges Vezina, who died at the age of 39 of tuberculosis.

The award is voted on at the end of the season by NHL general managers, and what are we if not armchair GMs? So the panel took to it.

The winner of the Vezina Trophy received more voting points than the winner of any other trophy, which is truly outstanding. Our winner is Sergei Bobrovsky of the Columbus Blue Jackets. Bobrovsky's closes competitors were Henrik Lundqvist of the New York Rangers and Craig Anderson of the Ottawa Senators.

It's quite a shocking turn of events, and perhaps some disloyalty from the voters of EOTP, as we gave our word to Megalodon of Battle of California that would would hype Antti Niemi of the San Jose Sharks for the Vezina this year in exchange for them repping Subban for Norris. I can only assume that Megalodon will now support Letang, but we understand.

However it seems that Bobrovsky's .932 save percentage on a terrible club like Columbus combined with a 21-11-6 record was simply too much to ignore. Bobrovsky didn't quite get the Jackets to the playoffs, but I doubt anyone else in the league could have put them so close this season.

Also the Flyers traded a goalie who's about to win the Vezina. Let's all take a moment to laugh hysterically at Paul Holmgren.
