The NHL Awards - EOTP Votes on the Jack Adams Award

Bruce Bennett

The NHL awards are often awarded to people who don't deserve them, so we decided to have our own awards. The rules of the game were simple, nine members of EOTP voted on the awards, each person voting for three people for each award, 3 points for a 1st place vote, 1 for 3rd place. In order to remove bias, we could not vote for anyone affiliated with the Montreal Canadiens.

The Jack Adams Award is given annually to the NHL coach adjudged to have contributed the most to his team's success.

With four of a possible nine first place votes Ottawa Senators coach Paul MacLean was voted the most deserving to win the award, edging out the Islanders' Jack Capuano and the Blackhawks' Joel Quennville

With three games left in the 2013 season, Ottawa has been without star defenseman Erik Karlsson for all but fourteen games, and without star center Jason Spezza for all but five.

Yet without their best forward and best defenseman, the pesky Sens are 23-16-6 for 52 points, 7th in the Eastern conference. A plus-10 goal differential and 52.05% Fenwick while the score is close speaks to their record not being a fluke either.

The Senators have accomplished this with no roster player on pace for a 20 goal season in an 82 game schedule (Cory Conacher scored most of his goals for Tampa Bay).

With this in mind, EOTP votes to give Paul MacLean the Jack Adams Award for excellence in coaching for the 2013 season.
