Not a very eventful period, but one in which the Canadiens and Islanders both looked fairly strong.
SCORING SUMMARY

PENALTY SUMMARY
1ST PERIOD
17:47 NYI TRAVIS HAMONIC : TRIPPING - 2 MIN (RYAN WHITE)
17:50 MTL TOMAS PLEKANEC : TRIPPING - 2 MIN (FRANS NIELSEN)
The line of Alex Galchenyuk, Tomas Plekanec, and Michael Ryder seemed to have instant chemistry in the first period, and if Plekanec can insulate those two in tough minutes situations, it's just another notch in his cap.
It wasn't an all good period for Plekanec though, as he negated a penalty created by Ryan White just 3 seconds into it by tripping up Frans Nielsen after winning the draw.
It was slight interference off the faceoff, something that happens all the time, but something Pleks shouldn't be doing on a powerplay. Not a huge deal though.
Shots were 9-6 for the Canadiens. Fenwick was 10-9 for the Habs as well. Corsi 17-14.
A good road period, let's have two more.
